Dover man, 23, arrested in pair of armed robberies

HARRINGTON — A wanted 23-year-old Dover man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly committing two armed robberies in a three-day span, according to police in a new release and court documents.

After reviewing surveillance video and other evidence, Harrington Police spokesman Capt. Earl K. Brode said Deandre T. Bennett was apprehended in Dover, where an arrest warrant was active.

A 17-year-old Rite Aid clerk was robbed at gunpoint in Harrington last Saturday after an unknown person entered the store and tried to buy items, police said. The person then fled with an undisclosed amount of money, according to authorities.

Harrington and Dover police collaborated to investigate, Capt. Brode said, and Mr. Bennett was identified as a person of interest.

Charges in the alleged Harrington incident included first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft under $1,500 and endangering the welfare of a child. Mr. Bennett received a $40,000 cash bond and held at Sussex Correctional Institution in default.

The endangering the welfare of a child count resulted from the Rite Aid clerk’s juvenile age, police said.

On Monday, Dover Police investigated a separate armed robbery at a business with surveillance video, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Charges in the Dover case included first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. A $42,500 cash bail was set.
