Dover man sought after MCCC walkaway

DOVER — A 35-year-old Dover man was sought after he failed to return to Morris Community Correctional Center from an approved work pass.

The Delaware Department of Correction said Bruce Byler’s whereabouts were unknown and unauthorized. A warrant for escape after conviction was issued.

Community Corrections Centers are Level 4 facilities where the Department of Correction manages offenders who are transitioning back into the community. These centers are not secured like Level 5 prisons, as offenders are permitted to the leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs, or attend approved treatment sessions.

Byler was described as a 5-foot-10, 205-pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes, scars on his upper arms, forehead, left knee
and left leg, and tattoos on his right shoulder. He original offense was third-degree rape, the DOC said.

The DOC asked anyone with information to call (800) 542-9524 or their local police department.
