Dover police probe weekend shooting death of Smyrna man

DOVER — On Monday, city police continued to investigate the shooting death of a 20-year-old Smyrna man from the day before.

Jameir Vann-Robinson was pronounced dead at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover early Sunday morning after being shot in the back in the unit block of Mitscher Road, Dover Police said. He was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle and died shortly after arrival, authorities said. Staff called police to the hospital.

According to spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman, officers initially responded to Mitscher Road at approximately 2:04 a.m. after reports of multiple gunshots being fired. While several shell casings were found, police said, no victims or witnesses were present.

Police did not disclose who transported the wounded man to the hospital or whether anyone stayed with him afterward. Authorities would not discuss whether Mr. Vann-Robinson was wounded just once or any reason for him being in the area. His family was contacted following the incident.

No property damage was reported to police.

Detectives spoke to people in the area as part of the investigation, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted through tip lines maintained by Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at www.tipsubmit.com.
