Dover teen charged after deal turns robbery

Godon Powell

DOVER — A 16-year-old Dover male was arrested in alleged connection with a supposed cell phone transaction that turned into an armed robbery instead, Dover Police said Thursday.

Gordon Powell was charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after the “LetGo” app was used to set up a purchase in the Hamlet Shopping Center on Jan. 20.

Police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said a male and female agreed to meet the supposed buyer in parking lot at 1035 Walker Road, and a robbery ensued.

Powell was given a $30,000 unsecured bond and released to the custody of a parent/guardian.
