Drug charges result after vehicle chase

FREDERICA — A 28-year-old Felton man was charged after a vehicle pursuit led to the discovery of drugs, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Authorities said the incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 12:40 a.m., when a trooper saw a black Nissan Sentra driver on their cell phone while traveling on Clapham Road. A traffic stop was initiated when the driver, later identified as Taquion A. Turner, refused to stop and led police on a pursuit while committing several traffic violations including reckless and aggressive driving, police alleged.

A search warrant yielded approximately 19.79 grams of marijuana. approximately 2.28 grams of THC edibles and drug paraphernalia.

Troopers also located approximately 8.01 grams of crack cocaine that had been thrown out of the vehicle’s window by Mr. Turner during the pursuit, police said.

Charges included possession of a controlled substance in a tier 1 quantity, tampering with physical evidence, disregarding a police officer signal, driving while suspended or revoked, reckless driving, aggressive driving and other traffic violations

Mr. Turner was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
