Ellendale woman, 19, dies from crash injuries

FELTON — A 19-year-old Ellendale woman died Friday from crash injuries suffered on July 30, Delaware State Police said.

Spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the incident occurred at 8:55 a.m. when a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling north on Canterbury Road (Del. 15) just north of Roseville Road (County Road 387). A 2013 Dodge Avenger was traveling south on Canterbury Road north of Roseville Road.

The Cavalier crossed into the southbound lane and struck the left front bumper and side of the Avenger, police said.

Following the impact, the Cavalier spun in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to a final rest on the shoulder.

The Avenger continued southbound and rotated in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to a stop in the roadway.

The driver of the Cavalier, Terri Monae Nashie Bruinton, was not wearing her seatbelt and was initially transported to the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover before being transferred to the Christiana Medical Center, police said.

Ms. Bruinton had an extended stay at Christiana Medical Center before succumbing to her injuries.

The driver of the Avenger, a 56-year-old male from Houston, was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
