Ellendale woman charged in connection with alleged stabbing attempt

GEORGETOWN — A 25-year-old Ellendale woman was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to stab a man with a knife in the McDonalds parking lot, Georgetown Police spokesman Det. Joey Melvin said.

Rykia Weston was charged with aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the McDonalds parking lot for reports of a woman attempting to stab a male with a knife, authorities said.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted a woman who was holding a kitchen knife, police said. The woman complied with officers and was taken into custody.

Through investigation, police learned that the female was engaged in a verbal argument with her male partner which escalated, and she produced a knife, attempting to stab him several times, police said. The man was not injured during the incident. Alcohol was a factor in this incident, police said.

Ms. Weston was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of cash bond.
