GEORGETOWN — A 22-year-old Georgetown man was charged with six additional counts of second-degree rape following a Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit investigation involving an alleged incident on June 20 at a residence.

Police said a 20-year-old female reported that she was sexually assaulted and detectives identified Clay D. Conaway as a person of interest. On Aug. 22, Mr. Conaway was taken into custody without incident. He was transported back to Troop 4 on a warrant stemming from an Aug. 20 indictment for first-degree rape. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $70,000 secured bond.

Since Mr. Conaway’s arrest, the DSP said it has identified five additional persons all stating they were sexually assaulted by Mr. Conaway.

Police said two persons claimed they were sexually assaulted by Mr. Conaway in 2013. One case is from an alleged incident in 2017, and two additional incidents occurred in 2018, police said.

On Monday, Mr. Conaway was indicted on the new counts for five separate alleged incidents. His next court appearance is currently scheduled for Oct. 1, at Sussex County Superior Court.

State Police asked for anyone else with further information to contact Troop 4, Major Crimes Unit Detective D. Kristunas at 752-3856. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
