Harrington man charged with DUI after parking lot incident

HARRINGTON — A 25-year-old Harrington man was charged with four misdemeanors including driving under the influence and four traffic violations after police investigated a property damage accident report on Thursday, police said.

In a news release, Harrington Police Department spokesman Lt. Earl K. Brode said the alleged incident unfolded at 10:22 a.m. when officers were called to the Royal Farms parking lot on Milford-Harrington Highway and located a person seemingly under the influence.

Police said Eric N. Roberts, of the 3300 block of Brownsville Road, allegedly operated a vehicle involved in the property damage accident. Standard field sobriety tests were administered, according to authorities, and Mr. Roberts was taken into custody upon completion.

Police said investigation indicated that Mr. Roberts was driving westbound on Milford-Highway Highway approaching South DuPont Highway northbound; the vehicle allegedly crossed over South DuPont Highway, struck a curb and entered the Royal Farms parking lot before striking a parked vehicle, Lt. Brode said.

Police said Mr. Roberts was processed at Harrington Police.

Charges included alleged DUI alcohol, careless driving, unreasonable speed, leaving the scene of a collision, malicious mischief motor vehicle, improper lane change and following too closely.

Mr. Roberts was released to a family member with a future appearance at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover pending, police said.
