Heroin-related charges follow residential search

Ernest Jones

SMYRNA — Approximately 1,335 bags of heroin packaged for sale and approximately $2,700 in suspected drug proceeds were found during a residential search Tuesday, Smyrna Police spokesman Cpl. Brian Donner said.

Prior to the search warrant, authorities said, Ernest Jones, 30, of Smyrna, was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop. Cpl. Donner said a monthlong drug investigation had been ongoing.

Officers then went to Mr. Jones’ residence in the unit block of West Commerce Street and executed the warrant, police said. His two small children were at the home, according to Cpl. Donner.

Charges included possession of a controlled substance in Tier 5 quantity, maintaining a drug property, second-degree conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child (two counts).

Mr. Jones was held by the Delaware Department of Correction in lieu of $15,500 cash bond, police said.
