Juveniles charged in assault, attempted robbery incident

LAUREL – Town of Laurel police Aug. 1 arrested three juveniles on several charges in an assault and attempted robbery of a Hispanic man waiting for the bus outside a Laurel business.

According to Laurel Det. Tyler Bryan, officers on Aug. 1 were dispatched to the Five Points Deli for a report that a Hispanic male had been assaulted and required medical attention.

Devin Harris

Investigation revealed the victim was waiting for the bus on the west side of the deli when he was attacked by 14-year-old Devin Harris of Georgetown, Det. Bryan said. Harris attempted to take items from the victim’s pockets but was unsuccessful, according to police.

Julius Brown

Harris was assisted by Julius Brown, 16, of Laurel, and Trumaine Lofland, 18, of Laurel. The three suspects fled as officers arrived.

The suspects were subsequently identified, and officers attempted to take them into custody in the area of Carvel Gardens Apartments. Brown fled on foot but was later captured without incident, Det. Bryan said.

Trumaine Lofland

Harris was charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Felony Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. Per Justice of the Peace Court, he was released to his guardian pending trial.

Lofland and Brown were both charged with Felony Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Resisting Arrest. They were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and released on their own recognizance, Det. Bryan said.
