Laurel man faces drug charges

LAUREL – Delaware State Police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old Laurel man who was found in possession of drugs near a school bus stop.

Horell G. Haynes

Troopers dispatched to Fire Tower Road near the Cool Branch Development at about 6:39 a.m. April 9 for a report of a suspicious person at the development entrance that is a school bus pickup location, state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

Horell G. Haynes, who matched the suspicious subject description, told troopers he was “abandoned” there and needed to get back to the limits of Seaford, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Troopers subsequently found Haynes to be in possession of approximately 313.26 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Haynes was taken into custody without incident and was taken to Troop 5 and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 5 quantity and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Haynes was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $60,200 secured bond.
