Laurel man facing seventh DUI charge after crash

LAUREL — Bruce G. Williams Jr., a 54-year-old from Laurel, is facing his seventh driving under the influence offense of alcohol charge after he was involved in a single motorcycle crash on Wednesday, the Delaware State Police said.

Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday just after 2 p.m. when troopers were dispatched to a crash on County Seat Highway, east of Fire Tower Road.

When they arrived at the scene, the trooper found Mr. Williams laying on his side with his leg trapped in his moped. While speaking with him, the trooper smelled alcohol and a DUI investigation ensued.

Mr. Williams was taken to the Laurel Police Department. A computer check revealed that he had six previous DUI convictions.

Mr. Williams was charged with seventh offense DUI; driving after judgment prohibited; driving while suspended or revoked; failure to have insurance identification in possession; operation of an unregistered motor vehicle and fictitious tags.

He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $41,503 cash only bond.
