Laurel woman seriously injured in crash

LAUREL – A 38-year-old Millsboro woman was hospitalized with serious injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday night near Laurel.

Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Michael Austin said crash occurred at about 10:27 p.m. on Gordy Road near Whitesville Road.

Investigation revealed the woman was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra at a high rate of speed when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Whitesville Road. The vehicle went through the intersection into a grassy area where it came to a stop after impacting a ditch embankment, Cpl. Austin said.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was not wearing a seat-belt. She was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in serious condition, Cpl. Austin said.

Investigation by state police is ongoing.
