Lewes bicyclist, 79, critically injured in crash

LEWES — A bicycle riding 79-year-old Lewes man was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle on Coastal Highway Wednesday afternoon, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:31 p.m. at the intersection of Kings Highway. The cyclist was wearing a helmet and transported to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

An 89-year-old Millsboro man driving a 2017 Cadillac CTS that struck the bicycle was wearing a seatbelt and uninjured.

Northbound Coastal Highway was rendered to a single travel lane for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is ongoing and DSP asked anyone with information to contact Cpl. K. Argo of the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 703-3264. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
