Lewes man, 43, found dead in surf

REHOBOTH BEACH — A missing 43-year-old Lewes man was found dead in the surf along the beach in the Delaware Seashore State Park Monday, authorities said.

Timothy S. Toner was reported missing by a friend just after 1:30 a.m. when she witnessed him enter the ocean in the area of Rehoboth Avenue and not return after being gone for approximately 20 minutes. Multiple federal, state and local agencies responded to assist in the land, air, and water search, but all were unsuccessful in locating the man, police said.

Just after 11 a.m. Mr. Toner’s body was spotted, Rehoboth Beach Police said, just south of Dewey Beach in the area of Tower Road. A forensic investigator from the Division of Forensic Science responded to the scene and the body was removed. A death investigation is being conducted by the Rehoboth Beach Police with the assistance of the Division of Forensic Science and the Delaware State Police.

At this time no foul play is suspected, authorities said.
