Man fatally shot in Townsend home invasion

TOWNSEND — A Townsend man was shot to death after two armed suspects entered a residence in the 500 block of Dogtown Road early Friday, police said.

Delaware State Police said its Homicide Unit was investigating the incident which occurred at approximately 3:42 a.m.

Police said arriving troopers learned the suspects had entered the home and confronted two male residents. It was then that a physical altercation occurred during which time one of the male victims was shot, police said.

Both suspects then fled from the residence in an unknown direction.

Emergency Medical Services personnel, who had also responded, performed advanced life saving efforts on the victim; however, he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

His body will be turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death, police said.

He was identified Friday night as 28-year-old Joshua James.

The second male victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police said the Homicide Unit assumed the investigation, which includes conducting multiple interviews and collecting evidence.
