Maryland duo charged with prostitution offenses

SEAFORD — Two Maryland residents were arrested on prostitution-related charges after a Tuesday afternoon meeting was allegedly arranged in a restaurant parking lot.

According to Seaford Police Cpl. Eric Chambers, a police officer allegedly received a Facebook message from a 28-year-old female from Salisbury offering sexual favors for money. The officer, who police said did not know the female, then contacted the Seaford Police Criminal Investigations Division, authorities said.

Eventually, police said, Brittany Starns agreed to come to Seaford for a meeting in a parking lot in the 23000 block of Sussex Highway. the parking lot. Detectives and officers set surveillance up on the restaurant and also maintained contact with Ms. Starns. When she arrived to the restaurant, she was immediately taken into custody, police said.

A male, identified as Kevin Gardenhour, 63, of Salisbury, who was operating the suspect vehicle, was also taken into custody, police said. During the investigation it was learned that Ms. Starns would allegedly engage in prostitution activities in which both she and Mr. Gardenhour would be benefiting from with the proceeds, police claimed.

Mr. Gardenhour was charged with felony promoting prostitution, criminal solicitation, and third-degree conspiracy. He was released on $3,500 unsecured bond.

Ms. Starns was charged with prostitution, criminal solicitation and third-degree conspiracy. She was released on $1,250 unsecured bond.
