Authorities said Edward S. Husbands, an assistant principal in the Milford School District, was charged with two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual contact with a person less than 13 years old, one count of first-degree attempted unlawful sexual contact with a person less than 13, and three counts each of endangering the welfare of a child.

Spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the family of a 10-year-old girl contacted State Police criminal detectives on Tuesday and alleged she had been inappropriately touched by a friend’s father. Police said the girl told her mother of the alleged incident.

Further investigation found that the female allegedly had been unlawfully sexually contacted, along with two other girls ages 10 and 11, while they were spending the night at Mr. Husbands’ residence in Milton, police said.

Police said alleged separate incidents dated back to December 2014.

Mr. Husbands was arrested and charged on Thursday. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of $108,000 cash bond. He was issued a no-contact order with the females and any child younger than 18, police said.

Police asked anyone with information on any other alleged similar incidents involving Mr. Husbands to contact Detective R. Truitt, Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit, at 752-3813.

Information also may be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333, at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or via anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”

Few details were made public by the police.

“Because of the sensitivity of this case, and in consideration of the victims, only limited information will be released,” according to a news release.

Police referred questions regarding Mr. Husbands’ status with Milford School District to the school district office.

On the Milford district website, an earlier announcement stated that Mr. Husbands had been moved into an assistant principal position at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School after serving as assistant principal at Milford High School.

Milford Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Kohel released a statement on Friday morning regarding Mr. Husbands:
“Currently, Mr. Husbands is suspended with pay pending further investigation by the State Police,” she said.

“We have been in contact with the State Police since Wednesday, and we know that there is an active investigation in process. However, the only information that we have been given is that the allegations occurred outside of this school district; none of our children were involved.”
