Milford woman charged with fifth DUI

GREENWOOD – A 53-year-old Milford woman was arrested, charged and jailed on charges that include a fifth DUI offense following Delaware State Police investigation of a single-vehicle accident Saturday night in which three persons were injured.

Patricia J. Prettyman, the driver, was charged with: 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence; Vehicular Assault First Degree; Endanger Welfare of Child; Endangering the Welfare of a Child While DUI; Vehicular Assault Third Degree; Driving While Suspended and Failure to Maintain Lane, according to state police spokesman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

Prettyman and two passengers – an adult male and his 11-year-old son – were all transported to Bayhealth Sussex Campus. The child was subsequently transported to A.I. DuPont Hospital with serious injuries, Cpl. Jaffe said.

On June 29 around 9:46 p.m. troopers responded to the report of an overturned vehicle on Shawnee Road at Harvest Lane.

Troopers detected an odor of alcohol in contacting the driver. A DUI investigation ensued, and a computer check revealed Prettyman had four previous DUI convictions, said Cpl. Jaffe.

Prettyman was released from the hospital and taken to Troop 5 where she was charged. Prettyman was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $20,201 cash only bond.
