Millsboro man, 24, killed in single-vehicle crash

MILLSBORO – A 24-year-old Millsboro man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

The crash involving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee occurred at about 1:16 a.m., May 9 on Handy Road, according to Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

Investigation revealed the Cherokee was traveling north on Handy Road south of Dickerson Road when due to unsafe speed the driver failed to stay in the travel lane, Cpl. Jaffe said. The vehicle went off the road and struck a large standing tree.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin, was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Investigation revealed the driver was not properly restrained.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
