Millsboro: Vehicle pursuit ends in arrest of Felton man

MILLSBORO – Excessive speed led to a vehicle pursuit and the subsequent arrest early Monday morning of a Felton man on drug, DUI and other charges, Delaware State Police report.

Michael Dennis, 38, was charged with: Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance; Disregarding a Police Officer Signal; Tampering With Physical Evidence; Possession of a Controlled Substance; Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence; Driving While Suspended; Speeding in Excess of Posted Limits and other traffic related offenses, state police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

The incident began just after midnight April 22 when a trooper observed a GMC Yukon traveling above the posted speed limit on John J. Williams Highway in the area of Maryland Camp Road. 

A traffic stop was initiated when the driver failed to comply. The trooper observed the driver throw things out of the window. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of Mountaire Farms.

Upon contacting the driver, Michael Dennis, the trooper detected an odor of alcohol and a DUI investigation ensued. 

Dennis was taken into custody without incident.

Investigation revealed items thrown out the window were approximately 2.62 grams of cocaine. Dennis was also found in possession of over $3,500 in suspected drug proceeds, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Dennis was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,353 secured bond.
