Milton woman arrested for leaving infant unattended in Walmart parking Lot

GEORGETOWN – Town of Georgetown police Tuesday arrested a Milton woman who authorities say left an infant she was baby-sitting unattended in the Walmart parking lot.

Ofelia Velasquez Berduo

Ofelia Velasquez Berduo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Velasquez Berduo was arraigned and released on her own recognizance, Georgetown Police Department spokesman Det. Joey Melvin said.

Georgetown police responded to the Walmart parking lot for reports of a small child in a motor vehicle, unattended.

Officers found a small infant who was seated in the back seat of a Honda Pilot in the parking lot.

The vehicle was unlocked, and officers determined the female infant was in good health.

Further investigation revealed that the infant was alone in the vehicle for at least 15 minutes, Det. Melvin said.

Officers contacted the operator of the vehicle on scene and she was taken into custody. Officers learned Velasquez Berduo was babysitting the infant.

Police contacted the infant’s mother and the baby girl was returned to her custody, said Det. Melvin.
