Motorist killed Friday in collision with train

DELMAR — A motorist died Friday morning after a train struck his vehicle on railroad tracks on Bacons Road between Powell Farm Lane and Country Walk at about 8:58 a.m., Delaware State Police said.

Authorities said the vehicle was traveling east when a train was traveling southbound on the railroad tracks. The vehicle had crossed onto the railroad tracks and was sstruck by the train, police said. The car‘s driver car was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The National Transportation Safety Board was notified of the crash and officials from the Delmarva Central Railroad went to the scene.

Bacons Road between Powell Farm Lane and Country Walk was closed and State Police said motorists can expect delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.
