Passenger dies from injuries suffered in multi-car crash

NEWARK — A 79-year-old Wilmington man died after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Oct. 5, said the Delaware State Police.

Virgilio Sui was a passenger in the collision at noon on Ogletown-Stanton Road at the intersection with Churchman’s Road and Delaware Park Blvd.

Police said a Ford Escort, Toyota Tundra, Honda Accord, Nissan Pathfinder and Honda Civic were tangled up in the collision after an initial impact between the Civic and Escort.

The operator of the Civic, Jane Emery, 63, of Newark, was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane of travel, failure to stop at a red light, failure to signal, unreasonable speed and no proof of insurance.

All operators with the exception of the driver of the Tundra, who was not injured, were transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Pathfinder was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Sui was originally transported with suspected non-life threatening injuries, however on Oct. 10 he was pronounced dead due to complications from injuries suffered in the crash.

All persons involved in the crash were properly restrained and impairment was not considered as a contributing factor.

As a result of the Mr. Sui’s death the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit has assumed the investigation.
