Police probe robbery of Frederica Valero

FREDERICA — The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery of a Valero gas station that occurred Saturday night.

Police spokesman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., when troopers were dispatched to a hold-up alarm at the Valero gas station at 7865 Bay Road, Frederica. Upon arrival, troopers met with the store clerk who advised that while he was locking the door to prepare to leave, three masked males armed with handguns approached him and forced their way inside. Once inside, the suspects demanded the employee to open the safe. The employee was unable to open the safe when a struggle ensued and the employee was struck with the handle of a gun.

Police said the employee was able to activate the alarm. The suspects obtained several tobacco products prior to fleeing the area on foot.

The victim sustained a minor injury and was treated on scene by Emergency Medical Services.

The suspects were described as two black males and one white male. No surveillance images were available on Sunday.
