Troopers were dispatched to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in reference to a 19-year-old woman who had been physically assaulted, Cpl. Jaffe said.

The woman told troopers she had engaged in a verbal argument with her boyfriend, Rayshawn Sheppard at his residence in the 24000 block of German Road.

As she walked out of the residence, Sheppard threw her belongings outside. As she trying to pick up her belongings, she was struck with a blunt force object and she fell to the ground.  The woman then observed Sheppard spraying lighter fluid on belongings, Cpl. Jaffe said.

The woman left the residence and was privately transported to the hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Sheppard was taken into custody later that evening at his residence without incident.  He was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged. Sheppard was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $30,500 secured bond.
