Seat belt violation prompts drug arrest

DOVER — A 39-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after an initial vehicle stop due to a seat belt violation on Tuesday, Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

The incident took place at approximately 5:39 p.m. in the area of West Division and South Bradford streets, authorities. Police said a passenger in the Nissan Altima was seen not wearing a seat belt.

Driver Jamaal Curry was contacted and while looking for his identification, an officer saw in plain view, a brass knuckles marijuana vape pen in the center console of the vehicle, police said. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 139 bags of heroin and 12 Oxycodone pills.

Mr. Curry was arrested without incident and released on an own recognizance bond.

Charges included possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of a controlled substance (prescription pills), possession of marijuana and a seatbelt violation.
