Second suspect charged in Lewes robbery

LEWES — A second suspect was arrested in connection with an assault and robbery of a landlord on April 10, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said Thursday.

Amber Hoopes, 28, of Lewes, was taken into custody at a residence in the 20000 block of Wil King Road in Lewes.

She was charged with first-degree robbery, criminal mischief, theft of a motor vehicle, malicious interference with emergency communication, second-degree conspiracy and resisting arrest.

Ms. Hoopes was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in New Castle on $14,000 secured bond.

Police alleged that a 67-year-old man was assaulted during a dispute with one of his tenants, 25-year-old John Schaefer of Georgetown. Cash was also removed from the man’s wallet, police said.

Ms. Hoopes was present during the incident, according to authorities.
