Shooting incident: Georgetown police charge Laurel man

GEORGETOWN – Town of Georgetown police report the arrest of a Laurel man stemming from an April 24 shooting investigation.

Tyrone Fassett

Tyrone Fassett, 44, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshalls First State Fugitive Task Force at the Burton Village Apartment Complex in Rehoboth Beach, Georgetown Police Department spokesman Det. Joey Melvin said.

Fassett was turned over to the custody of Georgetown police and arrested for assault 1st degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted.

On April 24, Georgetown police responded to the parking lot of County Seats Apartments for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, Georgetown police learned that a male victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was subsequently transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to arrival of police.

Georgetown detectives determined that the suspect was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot when another male approached him and began to physically assault him. The suspect exited his vehicle and produced a handgun which he discharged, striking the victim in the foot, according to Det. Melvin.

Fassett was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a total $65,000 bond, Det. Melvin said.
