Shots fired in Felton home invasion

FELTON — At least two gunshots were fired but no injuries reported during a home invasion in the 100 block of Gelden Road early Wednesday morning, said Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

Troopers were called to the scene at 12:46 a.m. and told that four to six men had entered the residence after a side door was kicked in. Police believe the dwelling was specifically targeted for entry.

Men ages 20, 29 and 67 who lived at the home were present during the invasion, police said, along with a 44-year-old woman who resides there.

While the suspects were wearing masks, police said visual evidence indicated they were men. At least three of the suspects had handguns, authorities said.

One firearm was discharged at a bedroom door that residents were trying to keep closed, and a second shot was fired as the suspects left, police said. The suspects fled after being told that police were called, and no property was taken.

Citing the ongoing investigation, police did not disclose a motive and it was undetermined whether the occupants knew the perpetrators.

Cpl. Jaffe said, “However, we encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.”

Police ask anyone with information to contact Troop 3 Criminal Investigative Unit Detective M. Weinstein at 698-8443. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at
