Sleeping man, 80, wounded in latest Dover shooting

DOVER — The city’s 11th shooting with injuries in just over four months involved an 80-year-old Dover man who was sleeping in his bed when wounded early Wednesday morning, police said.

Since Feb. 28, 15 persons have been wounded by gunfire in Dover, including four fatally.

The latest shooting investigation began when Delaware State Police troopers were called to Alder Park Apartments at 1:39 a.m. They found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his lower extremity, authorities said.

The man was lying in bed sleeping when gun shots woke him up and he then realized he had been hit. The victim was alone at the time in the apartment at 51 Webbs Lane.

Police said a bullet came through a window from outside an apartment.

“All possibilities will be investigated and the case of a stray bullet fired from outside is not ruled out at this point,” Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

The man was removed by EMS and transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Delaware State Police ask anyone with information to contact Detective D. Blomquist at Troop 3 at 698-8426.

Police arrived to find him unresponsive inside the apartment with wounds.

Last week, three suspects were arrested and a fourth sought after the shooting death of a 21-year-old Dover man at Pine Grove Apartments at 255 Webbs Lane.

On June 1, a 20-year-old Dover woman was found dead inside a First State Inn room with gunshot wounds and a man was soon charged with first-degree murder.

On Feb. 28, a 25-year-old Dover man was shot to death at Towne Point Apartments at 820 Carvel Drive.

The victim was located inside a parked vehicle in the back of the complex at approximately 7:40 p.m.
