Smyrna woman, 25, dies in crash

DOVER — A 25-year-old Smyrna woman died Friday night after being hit by a vehicle while walking in the area of U.S. 13 north of Fast Landing Road, authorities said.

According to Delaware State Police, investigation determined that Larissa M. Tallhamer was running westbound across the northbound lane of U.S. 13 when struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado at approximately 9:56 p.m. The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown into the left lane, where she came to a final resting place in the center of U.S. 13, police said. The Silverado was able to come to a controlled stop in the median.

The Silverado driver was properly restrained and was wearing his seatbelt, police said. Impairment does not appear to be a factor on his behalf, according to authorities.

Ms. Tallhamer was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was wearing dark clothing with no reflective material, and was not carrying a light. Impairment on her behalf was not immediately determined, police said.

U.S. 13 in the area of Fast Landing Road was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
