State police: Ocean View business focus of appliance fraud investigation

OCEAN VIEW – An Ocean View business, Coastal Maytag, is the focus of an appliance fraud investigation by the Delaware State Police Financial Crimes Unit.

State police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said to date approximately 30 fraudulent complaints have been filed with the Delaware State Police regarding Coastal Maytag.

No charges have been filed at this time, and state police detectives will be working in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Office in reference to this case, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Investigation began in the beginning of February 2019 when troopers were informed of an incident in which a customer purchased appliances from Coastal Maytag and the items were never delivered, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Further investigation revealed that numerous customers have purchased appliances in which they either have paid in full or in part and have not received the merchandise or any type of refund, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Detectives ask anyone who believes they are a victim of this crime to attempt to report their case by May 1, 2019 to Det. McCabe at 856-5850.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.

Coastal Maytag, located at 30459 Cedar Neck Road, remains closed at this time, Cpl. Jaffe said.

The case remains under investigation by Delaware State Police Troop 4’s Financial Crimes Unit.
