State police: One wounded in shootings at tavern

ELLENDALE – Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident at an Ellendale tavern early Saturday morning in which one person was injured.

At approximately 1:01 a.m., June 1, troopers were dispatched to the Gateway Tavern at 12327 DuPont Boulevard for a report of a shooting.  A 38-year-old man outside stated he had been shot in the lower extremity by an unknown person, state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

The victim was then transported by EMS with serious but non-life threatening injuries to a local area hospital, said Sgt. Bratz.

It was reported to authorities the tavern brought in several local rap artists to perform for the crowd and during the musical performance several fights broke out inside the bar then continued outside the establishment. Multiple groups were engaging in fights simultaneously, Sgt. Bratz said.

During the fights, several gunshots were heard outside and shortly after the victim was located in the parking lot with gunshot wounds, investigation revealed.

The cause of the altercations is still unknown, Sgt. Bratz said.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Investigation is active and ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Troop 4, Georgetown at 856-5850 or Det. R. Mills at 752-3800.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or via the internet at http://www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
