Suspect nabbed in robbery attempt at Smyrna book shop

SMYRNA — A 37-year-old Smyrna man was arrested after an attempted robbery at an area book store Sunday afternoon, Delaware State Police said.

Delaware State Police said Daniel Lilly, allegedly entered Acorn Book at 2421 S. DuPont Boulevard at approximately 2 p.m.

He told a 47-year-old male employee he had a gun, then demanded all the money from the cash register, police said.

The employee then directed Mr. Lilly to the register, at which time he had the opportunity to flee the business, police said.

The employee locked the door as he exited, which in turn locked Mr. Lilly inside the sore, alone, police said.

A DSP K-9 team located Mr. Lilly hiding in a closet within the business and took him in to custody without incident, according to authorities.

Mr. Lilly was transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with first-degree attempted robbery.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and then committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $25,000 secured bond.
