Suspect sought in Dover shooting death

Timothy Safford

DOVER — A 42-year-old man was sought in a June 22 shooting death at Liberty Court Apartments, Dover Police said Friday.

Police said Timothy Safford should be considered armed and dangerous and asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911 or their local police department immediately.

According to authorities, Sylvester Lee, 41, of Clayton, was shot to death after allegedly being involved in a verbal argument with Mr. Safford. Police said that the alleged shooting took place as both men walked towards Mr. Lee’s vehicle at 1289 Walker Road at approximately 9:41 p.m. Police said Mr. Lee was struck in the torso by gunfire multiple times.

Pending charges include first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts). While police said Safford’s last known address was in Dover, that was no longer the case.

Mr. Lee was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m., police said.
