FELTON — An SUV crashed into Lake Forest Central Elementary School Wednesday night.

Delaware State Police said a 56-year-old Dover male was operating a 1999 Ford Explorer eastbound on Killens Pond Road and for undetermined reasons, the Explorer traveled off the north side of the road, across grass in front of the school and crashed into the front office area.

The driver, who was properly restrained, was transported by EMS to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Delaware State Police.

The school was unoccupied by staff at the time of the incident, police said.

No charges have been filed as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

School officials, in an automated call to students and staff, said the SUV had damaged the school office and inspectors were assessing the damage.

School will open at its regularly scheduled time on Thursday.
