Two overnight Dover shootings may be related

DOVER – An ongoing string of shootings in the city continued early Saturday morning, and police said they may be connected.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the torso during a large parking lot fight at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino at approximately 1:47 a.m., the Dover Police Department said.

At 2:55 a.m., authorities said, two persons were shot at the IHOP restaurant on South Little Creek Road during a parking lot fight. According to spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman, detectives believe persons in the IHOP brawl were previously at the Dover Downs Casino for a private party.

Since April 18, police have reported 11 shootings that left 14 persons dead or wounded. Three homicides have occurred during the stretch, authorities said.

In Saturday morning’s first incident at the hotel and casino, police arrived at 1131 N. DuPont Highway to find a large crowd gathered and several persons fighting following a private “All White Clothing” party, Cpl. Hoffman said.

The victim was shot by an unknown black male suspect, police said, and transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital where he was in stable, but serious condition.

Just over an hour later, police went to the IHOP at 21 S. Little Creek Road and found that two people were wounded during a fight, Cpl. Hoffman said.

Police said multiple shots were fired during the fight. A 33-year-old male was struck and taken to the hospital and listed in stable but serious condition. A 23-year-old female was treated and released,

authorities said.
