Vehicle contact brings gun charges

DOVER — An 18-year-old man was arrested on gun charges after a Saturday night traffic stop, Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

Dakota Borntreger was seen driving a vehicle at 11:54 p.m. in the 200 block of S. DuPont Highway, authorities said. He was wanted by Delaware State Police for possession of a firearm by person prohibited.

Mr. Borntreger was taken into custody without incident. Police said he was in possession of a 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Charges included carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts) and possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number. Mr. Borntreger was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on $20,000 secured bond.
