Wanted man located during traffic stop

Demetrio R. Stewart

MILFORD — A wanted 39-year-old Ellendale man was located during a traffic stop due to driving the wrong way on a one way street last Saturday, Milford Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten said.

Demetrio R. Stewart initially provided a false name to investigating officers, authorities said, following the incident on Northwest Third Street around 1:26 a.m., police said. He was identified and police said found to be wanted by the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.

Police determined that Mr. Stewart was allegedly driving the vehicle while impaired and was in possession of crack cocaine. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Charges included criminal impersonation, possession of a controlled substance, DUI of alcohol, driving while suspended or revoked, failure to have insurance identification in possession, failure to have registration card in possession, driving the wrong way on one way road and drive over/upon curve. Mr. Stewart was presented at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover, where unsecured bail was set at $2,352.
