Welfare check  leads to gun arrest

DOVER — A 20-year-old man was arrested on gun and marijuana charges following a welfare check Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Dover Police said Mykel Martin was found sleeping or passed out in his vehicle in the unit block of Greenway Lane at 12:27 a.m. Officers contacted Mr. Martin and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, police said. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two grams of marijuana, a loaded handgun, and a box of ammunition.

Mr. Martin was arrested without incident and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of firearm by person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was released on $7,500 unsecured bond.
