Woman, 20, dies from injuries in single-vehicle crash

MILLSBORO – A Delaware woman died from injuries sustained Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash near Millsboro.

Delaware State Police on Tuesday identified the woman as Demizha Sondrell Romance Sturgis, 20, of Wyoming, Delaware.

The crash that occurred at about 11:09 a.m. Sept. 16 on Indian Town Road east of Hudson Road, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said.

Investigation revealed a 2004 Honda Accord rounded a curve at an apparent high rate of speed in the opposite lane. After nearly striking a vehicle head-on, the driver lost control and the Accord left the roadway into the dense woods where the front struck a pine tree, Cpl. Jaffe said.

A Good Samaritan passing by pulled the driver from the vehicle before it was consumed by fire. The Good Samaritan, a local resident, performed CPR prior to Emergency Medical Services arrival, Cpl. Jaffe said.

Ms. Demizha Sondrell Romance Sturgis was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, Cpl. Jaffe said. State police investigation revealed she was not properly restrained.

Indian Town Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
