Woman wounded in early morning Dover shooting

DOVER – Details were scarce as police investigated the shooting of a 23-year-old woman in the first block of South New Street early Tuesday morning.

The victim, whose name and residence were undisclosed, was treated for non-life threatening injuries after arriving at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital just after 12:22 a.m., Dover Police said. She was in stable condition, authorities said later in the morning.

The woman was shot once in the torso by an unknown suspect while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at approximately 12:22 a,m, A 24-year-old male passenger was uninjured, along with a 1-year-old female. Authorities did not release the infant’s relationship to the adults.

Police are investigating the reason for the women being in the area. It was unknown whether any other persons were in the vicinity when the shooting occurred, or whether the suspect was on foot or in a vehicle, authorities said.

Officers were summoned to the scene after several 911 calls reporting shots fired. Police then canvassed the area and interviewed witnesses as investigation into the incident began.

Several shots were fired and the vehicle was damaged, police said.
