Inaugural Bands On The River Marching Band Festival Oct. 13

DAGSBORO – Three high school bands will perform separately and then together in a closing finale Saturday, Oct. 13 in the inaugural Bands on The River Marching Band Festival.

Marching bands from Cape Henlopen, Sussex Central and host Indian River will perform their 2018 field shows on the Indian River High School stadium field.

Gates open at 3 p.m. The field show performance begins at 4 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the IR Band Boosters in support of the IRHS band trips this school year to Walt Disneyworld in January and the National Memorial Day Parade in late May of 2019.

Tickets are $10.

After each marching band performs its halftime show, a unified closing twist is planned.

“We’re going to do one or two things together,” said IRHS band director Nathan Mohler. “We’re trying to do something.”

“Typically, all the kids make a big huge circle. They’ll get all of the instruments together … so the kids are kind of intermingled with each other. And they play some songs together that they know,” said Lisa Bird, president of the Indian River Band Boosters. “They have a good time.”

Regular concessions will be available for food and drink purchases.
