Athlete of the Week: Aidan Sanchez, Smyrna High School

Aidan Sanchez

Smyrna High’s Aidan Sanchez was voted by readers as the Week 9 Delaware State News Athlete of the Week for his performance on the field.

Sanchez tossed for 241 yards and five touchdowns last Friday night in Smyrna’s 54-14 Henlopen North victory over Cape Henlopen High.

Following the big win over Cape, Smyrna finishes the season with an 8-2 record (Polytech High forfeited the team’s Week 10 showdown with the Eagles). It comes one season after the Eagles finished with three wins and missed the Division I state tournament.

It marks the second time this season that the junior quarterback has earned the award. He also won the Week 4 award for his 393 yards and two touchdowns in an 18-10 win over Salesianum School.

Sussex Tech High’s K.J. Custis (football) and Caleb Bradley (cross country) and Dover football players Javontae Wayman and Vonnie Peace each received votes as well.
