Smyrna High football’s Aidan Sanchez was voted by readers as the Week 4 Delaware State News Athlete of the Week for his performance on the field.

Sanchez, the Eagles’ junior starting quarterback, tossed for 393 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 28-of-49 passing to lead his Eagles to an 18-10 victory over Salesianum School on Sept. 27.

As a team, the Eagles (2-2) rushed for just 23 yards on 14 carries in the nonconference win, leaning heavily on Sanchez to lead them to victory for the second straight week. Both his touchdown passes went to senior Makhi Jackson.

Sanchez now has 955 passing yards and four touchdowns in four games.

Lake Forest High’s Damian Galindez, Dover High’s Vonnie Peace and Sussex Central High’s TyJhir Sheppard-Parker also received votes.
