Dover High field hockey’s Chelsea Johnson was voted by readers as the Week 6 Delaware State News Athlete of the Week for her performance on the field.

Johnson, a junior attack, scored one of the Senators’ two goals in a 2-1 win over Woodbridge High Oct. 8.

She followed it up with a two-goal performance in the team’s 4-0 shutout win over Henlopen North opponent Sussex Central High in the Turf Bowl at University of Delaware Oct. 12.

Johnson, who has scored seven goals with five assists in 12 games for the 7-3-2 Senators, becomes the second Dover field hockey player to grab Athlete of the Week this season. She joins teammate and Week 3 winner Superia Clark.

Johnson reeled in close to half of the 535 votes to earn the award.

A pair of Smyrna High athletes — senior linebacker Darryl “Debo” Williams and senior field hockey player Lexi Moore — also received votes. It was the second consecutive nomination for Williams.
