Athlete of the Week: Elijah Allen, Dover High School

Senators star Elijah Allen goes between two Golden Knight defenders in the first quarter in their season-opener Dec. 4.

Dover High’s Elijah Allen was voted by readers as the winter sports season’s Week 1 Delaware State News Athlete of the Week for his performance on the basketball court.

Allen, a senior, scored his 1,000th career point halfway through the first quarter of the Senators’ season-opening win over Sussex Central High on Dec. 4. He finished with a game-high 21 points in the 86-26 win.

Just 24 hours later, Allen helped his Dover squad defeat conference foe Milford High, 89-40, to pick up two wins in just two days.

He dropped another 30 points in Saturday’s 78-61 win over out of state opponent Shipley School, Pa. to earn the Most Outstanding Player of the Year award in the Tipoff Invitational at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington.

The Senators are off to a 4-0 start heading into tonight’s road showdown at Polytech High. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Caesar Rodney High’s Blaise Moyer also received votes for the honor.
