Delaware football team to face Rutgers in 2021

NEWARK – There’s long been a group of Delaware football fans that hoped the Blue Hens would take on some of the biggest programs in the region.

Now they’re going to get that chance.

A few weeks after setting up two future dates with Penn State, UD announced on Thursday that it will be playing another Big 10 member, Rutgers.

The Blue Hens will face the Scarlet Knights on Sept. 18, 2021.

The two programs have actually already played each other 31 times but not since 1973. Rutgers leads the all-time series by a margin of 15-13-3.

Delaware and Rutgers first played in 1901. They then squared off 16 times between 1955 and ’73.
